Monte Carlo Calculation of linear attenuation coefficients and photon scattering properties of novel concretes loaded with Osmium, Iridium and Barite nanoparticles

Abstract Introduction: Recent studies have shown that the use of high-density nanoparticles (NPs) in concrete composition improves its radiation shielding properties. In present study, linear attenuation coefficients and photon scattering properties newly developed Nano-concretes been calculated using MCNPX Monte Carlo code. Material methods: The containing 10%, 20%, 30% weight percentage Osmium, Iridium Barite NPs (100 nm) as well ordinary were investigated. 6 18 MV beams Varian Linac 60 Co photons used for simulation. Photon flux was all with 30 wt% at different angles. Results: general, by adding Iridium, Osmium to concrete, increased. Despite a lower density relative exhibited higher coefficient due their electron density. Conclusions: results revealed dependence between scattered effective atomic number Nano-concretes.
